Pūtea Tautoko
An early game of cricket was played here, Charles Darwin visited and loved it - and so do we!
The second oldest building in New Zealand is in severe need of restoration.
Te Waimate Mission, an elegantly simple Georgian design set in lush and tranquil grounds on the Bay of Islands has played a significant role in the earliest relationships between Māori and European settlers. This property deserves to stand tall and take its rightful place as a much loved and treasure icon of our past.
Even after Government funding, there is a significant shortfall to cover everything we need to do to save this magnificent place. We need to find around $77,000 to restore Te Waimate. As a champion of New Zeland's heritage please support this appeal.
