From Darkness to Light

$21.00

After an initial visit in 2005 to the Kerikeri Mission Station, Vivienne Plumb was inspired to work on a collection of poems about the house, the missionaries who lived there and the present-day role of the house which is now a New Zealand Historic Places Trust heritage site. She sees the Mission House as an important place of first contact between Maori and Europeans and a living pre-colonial record and testament to the missionaries who travelled so far to this end of the Pacific.

Vivienne Plumb is an award-winning poet, playwright and fiction writer. She has received a number of awards and fellowships including the Buddle Findlay Sargeson Fellowship in 2001 and an international writing residency at the University of Iowa in 2004. Many of the poems in From Darkness to Light were written while she held the Massey University writer-in-residence position during 2006.
