Highwic
$8.00
One of New Zealand's finest Carpenter Gothic houses, Highwic was built in 1862 for Alfred Buckland, one of Auckland's largest landowners, and extended later to accommodate his 21 children. It offers visitors a glimpse of life for a well-to-do family at a time when Britain's furthest-flung colony was becoming firmly established.
Highwic has its own 28 page commemorative colour booklet, telling the story of the Bucklands and presenting the various rooms in the house, and the historic garden.
A memento for visitors to Highwic, the readily approachable style and attractive photographs make it enjoyable and easy reading even if you don't have the chance to pay a visit.
