Antrim House – headquarters of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust – needs urgent repair work. We must act quickly to preserve this landmark property for future generations.
Imagine walking into a beautifully crafted home – a landmark building over 100 years old – only to find a rotting verandah, decks and columns. You would want to fix it, wouldn’t you? We would too. Especially when that home is Antrim House, a place where the people responsible for protecting our national heritage go to work every day.
Antrim House is one of the last remaining houses in what was once a predominantly residential street. It’s still surrounded by expansive grounds and trees, and its beautiful verandahs and pillars are one of the main features of the property. But it is these verandahs and pillars that are badly damaged. There is decay in the decking and columns, which is weakening its structure. There is also loose plaster in the front steps and concrete foundation wall. In order to conserve and restore these features as quickly as possible, we need to raise $100,000:
- The deck needs to be uplifted, treated and refitted
- Columns need replacing, rusty nails removed and handrails touched up
- Steps and concrete surfaces all require repairing, replastering and repainting.
- Rusting pipework needs treating, and sundry work done on both floors.
We need your help to restore Antrim House.
