Read this Building: The Story of Old St Paul's

Whakakītenga

Old St Paul's, 34 Mulgrave Street, Wellington
Daily 9.30am-5pm (occasionally closed for private functions)

Opened in July 2009, this multi-media exhibition tells the wonderful and sometimes quirky stories of the church, its site and people on a journey from colonial times until the present through 12 short videos, artefacts and informative panels.

It tells us about ourselves, about the first English settlers of this city and the ideas they brought with them, about how they interacted with Maori and became aware of the often harsh realities of life in a new land... and about how - a century and a half later, in a world that is completely transformed - what they created continues to comfort and inspire the people of this city.

“This beautiful building is like a book.  Its stories are told not in words but in wood, metal and glass…"
