Old St Paul's is a place of living history, a place that tells the stories not only of the church but of the people of Wellington, of significant New Zealanders, and of foreign visitors and is therefore the perfect location for an outside the classroom experience.
Our exciting education programme and resources link well with curriculum and are designed to complement your classroom activities. They focus in particular on the key competencies for lifelong learning and values exploration. They are developed to fit with achievement objectives and cover essential learning areas such as:
- Social Sciences (History, Social Studies)
- the Arts (Architecture)
Enquire about our teachers' resources - designed to help teachers integrate their students' experience of Old St Paul’s with the curriculum.
The purpose of our education programme and the supplementing resources is to
- provide background material in preparation for a visit to Old St Paul’s
- provide a range of interactive learning materials to be completed during the visit at Old St Paul’s
- provide tasks and activities for a classroom-based follow-up session
- playfully and interactively learn about Wellignton's history
- cross the border from viewer to active participant
- create strong references to the present and future
- bring history alive to make it accessible, interesting and meaningful.
Social history comes to life…
