Enjoy a snack from our cafe - indoors or outdoors.

Opening Hours

9am - 5pm daily, September - May
June-July closed
9am - 5pm Saturday and Sunday, August

Closed Christmas Day.   Other times by arrangement.

Admission

Adult: $9
Student (tertiary): $5
Children: free
Guided tours of the works in operation* on open days: $15 per person
Group tours (12 or more) including the works in operation: $15 per person.

NZ Historic Places Trust Members/Affiliated Members: free
Concessions apply, and guided tours are available on request

* Tour tour includes a walk through the factory where the history and workings of the factory are explained, the machinery is turned on and demonstrated.  This is followed by an introduction to and tour through the house (recently renovated).

Parking

There is plenty of free carparking available on site.  Bicycle stands are also available.

Campervans may be parked in the adjacent paddock for $5 per night.  Toilets are available, and rubbish removal arranged.  You may fill your campervan with water before 9am and after 5 pm at the property.

Group Tours

Group tours may be arranged by contacting the staff at Hayes Engineering, ph/fax 03 444 5801 to arrange a convenient time. We would be delighted to work with you to develop a programme suited to the interests and ages of your group. 

Demonstrations of the machinery in operation may be arranged with prior notice, for groups of 12 or more at any time during the summer months. 

Wheelchair Access

Most buildings are accessible to wheelchairs, some doorways and areas near machinery may be narrow for motorised chairs.

Shop

Hayes Engineering has a small shop where you may purchase that special reminder of a unique place.

Refreshments

Light refreshments are available from our small cafe - including ice creams, cold drinks, coffee & tea, sweets, pies etc.   You may like to bring your own small picnic to enjoy. 

Toilets

Public facilities are available.
